This is a lengthy post, but any feedback is greatly appreciated! During the last few months, I researched sounds I like (that I plan to incorporate into workflow) in tandem with gear that can make them. I’m not out to obtain a ton of gear since the focus is to build a base of tools, (mostly hardware since I’m more of a fan of that than software, although I know there are some great digital tools. Thankfully I can afford to obtain gear, but not at the level of owning an original Linn LM2 or a Jupiter 8. I’m not after creating music/sound in one genre, but there is a lean towar…Read More

Alex commented on the gear review, UNO Synth Pro – A surprisingly powerful little synth!
Yes it works great as a MIDI Controller, sends CCs from all the knobs and with the matrix you have access to lots of MIDI CC’s. I use it a lot to record notes into my other sequencers as I really like how you c […]

I’ve created a template (backup/restore file) that will make the SH-4d behave more like a groovebox when saving Patterns.
For the first 32 patterns, I’ve saved (and pre-mapped) an INIT preset for each Tone Part 1-4, as well as a default TR-909 Rhythm Kit.
You can now select a pattern (01-32), create your synth and drum parts, and then save the Pattern (using OVERWRITE) and, if you’re designing your own sounds while creating patterns, there’s now no need to rename everything as I’ve already done it for you!
The remaining 96 patterns have been left empty, so you can use these for…Read More

Here is a link to the manual showing how to install the template file. Follow the instructions for “Restore” using the provided SH4d.SVD file.

Alex, I can’t help to ask… what are you using as an editor/librarian for the .svd file? I understand that this is a file format that Roland uses for some of their synths – I couldn’t see any librarian/editor for the SH-4D … would be nice if we see one in the future… anyhow, just curious…

Bit late to the party, but anyway.. I just registered just to say ‘Thank you!’ for this. It’s exactly the same method I have been using manually for each new project until now. This is a huge time saver.

The new Woovebox looks great. I was thinking about buying an m8 but might get one of these instead

I just received a notification that the Woovebox will be back in stock next week. I’m tempted to pick one up. Seems like an amazing device for the size. I think I prefer it to the M8 tracker as my old eyes wouldn’t cope with the tiny font.

Looks like the Behringer JT-4000 Micro Synth is now available for preorder. Looks good for the price.

Supposedly this synth is paraphonic with all voices sharing the analog filter, but that last demo with the droning bass and a melody with clearly enveloped filters over it seem to indicate otherwise. Unless they multi tracked that demo which would be misleading as far as the synth’s actual capabilities.
It’s an interesting concept and it does sound pretty good.

These are in stock now and was about to buy when I noticed it didn’t have DIN MIDI, only via USB. I thought they would have at least added TRS MIDI. I can’t imagine there’s many dawless folks that will buy this.

I received mine yesterday and noticed they’ve just released a firmware update to address some of the early user feedback including the sound of the wavetables/oscillators.
1. Three Oscillator Modes: Discover new sonic horizons with our three distinct oscillator modes: Modern, Modern Bright, and Vintage.
2. Master Tune Control: Precision is at your fingertips. You can now fine-tune your instrument with the new Master Tune control, allowing adjustments from 432Hz to 448Hz.

The main downsides to the Bass Station 2 are the shared knobs/sliders for the oscillators and envelopes. Other than I can highly recommend it. I can’t say I’d recommend any of the sequencers as you’ll soon grow out of them with the setup you’re looking at. Maybe take a look at the Oxi One?
