I’ve tried quite a few. Currently have the TD-3 and TB-03, but use the Boutique most as it has midi cc’s. I think the TD-3 sounds better though, especially the accent!

I realised I left the new Roland T-8 off this list which, having used side by side with the T-8, I actually think sounds more authentic. The accent behaviour seems improved. It also responds to PCM messages to change patterns in sync with your other gear which I don’t think any other TB-303 clones can do? It doesn’t respond to midi CC’s though, like the TB-03. Hopefully they’ll add that then it’ll be perfect.

I’m tempted to pick up a T-8 for the 303 alone. This paired with the TR-6S would make a great little battery powered portable setup.

This is the first track I recorded on the Roland T-8. Recorded straight out of the audio outputs, no additional effects. Great little machine.

I own the original Phoscyon, but always preferred the sound of AudioRealism’s ABL3, not that I use VST instruments much these days as I’m mostly DAWless. Apparently D16 have updated the sound engine in Phoscyon 2, but still not sure I’d upgrade. It does have more parameters than ABL3 though, more like a devilfish emulation.

I demo’d their VST’s a couple of years ago but find the GUI’s to be too small to be usable on a Retina display. They might have improved it with the update but I already own ABL3 (and several hardware 303 synths!) so will probably give it a miss.
